    Re: USA economy?

I am not going to get too much into this right now as I am very political, and not always rational when discussing it.

But basically, the US economy is amazing when the government allows it to run its course. The problem now is that the government forced banks years ago to accept much more risk than they would normally have accepted (primarily mortgages for those that couldn't afford them at rates that were too low to begin with). Now that is coming back to bite the banks, and they are in trouble. This all reflects in the economy as the banks in essence control the flow of money.

All that said, the US economy will survive. It may go through some hard times (possibly some VERY hard times), but it will come through. It always has, and always will. I have faith in the economy though not always in the government. I believe in supply and demand controlling prices, and the government controlling the military. I believe the general populace should control the economy, and that the government has no business trying to control something they do not understand.

I also believe many other things that are both good and bad about the way things are run. However, the reasons we have problems are the same reasons we are such a great country. We allow everyone to make their own choices. Everyone has the opportunity to succeed or fail based on the choices they make. The unfortunate result of this is that poor choices made by those in control negatively impact many people. It is the people's responsibility to elect those with the wisdom and courage to do what needs to be done.

Anyways, I have rambled long enough. The economy is having a rough time right now, but it will pull through.

    Yikes, this could get interesting

I think we're in for a depression. How long that will last I don't know.

I agree with the basic sentiment above. I think the government should decide whether the markets are capitalist markets (ie let the banks fail) or socialist markets (nationalise them if their in trouble) but the mix at the moment between half capitalism and half socialism is neither here nor there - its a far more dangerous propsisioin that either of the above as there is risk to making bad investment decisions for the banks.

I agree. Left alone, economy flourishes. When the government steps in to "fix the problems", that is when the crises occur.

ACK! I just deleted several lines of my ranting. See what you guys get me on? :P

    Re: USA economy?

Not sure what you are trying to say there, christake.

However, I would like to say that the US economy, while in a slump, will recover. There are many that would have you believe that we are in irrecoverable situation. I cannot emphasize enought that that is NOT the case. We have always bounced back, and always will.

I will say again, that the problem boils down to issues that the politicians have caused. The fastest way for the economy to bounce back is for the politicians to step aside and allow the issues to work themselves out. I am confident, however, that the politicians will instead try and force the resolution. The problem with that is that no matter how much the politicians want to control the free market, it cannot be controlled by a body of people. It can only be controlled by the forces of supply and demand.

The economists are worried that people aren't spending money? The problem is that we are in the process of getting a new presidency that has promised to take our money away. He has promised to raise taxes. How can we spend money when we will need it for later when he takes away the money we need to live with?

But don't get me started on the new president. I will say this though. I did not vote for him, I do not agree with him, his policies terrify me, but he is my president (or will be in February), and I will support him and pray that he succeeds in helping this great country grow.

Careful declaring that....It puts you in the "rich" category.

Actually, since you are now in that category, maybe you could ask for a bailout!

    Re: USA economy?

After leading the world for more than a century, a shining advertisement for capitalist values, the American economy is in deep trouble.
