    Unhappy Help with tables on a myspace profile

    Hey webmasters!
    I'm developing a page for a friend and i'm having all kinds of problems. Most alarming one is if i use the first two style codes to show the upcoming shows sections and background the entire page goes crazy with tables and borders at weird places. If i don't use it, the section shows up with invisible background.

    I know a bit of CSS but the tables showing up just make no sense to me. If anyone knows what they are and at what level are they coded, i could try something...
    Can someone please take a look at the layout and try to spot what's going on. I added comments to make it easy to understand what does what. And there's two attached images to this post for you to compare.
    The url is www.myspace.com/danriverman Also the page looks like crap in explorer, because i coded it all in firefox and never cared for inter-browser compatibility. It's not like myspace gives any latitude for that kind of choice to my experience. But if any of you have any advice to offer on making IE users (are there still any?) enjoy the page as it should, i'd be thrilled.

    So, here goes the code:
    Code:
    <style>
    {!-show upcoming shows-!}
    td.text div {display:block;}
    td.text td div {display:block;}
    </style>

    <style>
    {!-upcoming shows background-!}
    td.text div {background-image:url("http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3348/3505117019_c5368ddf16_o.jpg"); background-position:top right; background-repeat:repeat-y; padding:5px; border:2px; border-style:solid; border-color:000000;}
    td.text td div, td td td td.text div {background-image:none;}
    </style>

    <style>
    {!-hide url-!}
    table table table table div {display:none;}
    table table td.text table table div {display:block;}
    table table table.contactTable {position:relative;
    top:0px; margin-bottom:-75px; }
    </style>

    <style>

    Re: Help with tables on a myspace profile

    After reading my own post, i realized i could state the problem a little clearer, so here's what i'm asking:

    1 - Code to add background image to the "upcoming shows" section without affecting other tables
    2 - Code to remove the empty space between "upcoming shows" and "friends"
    3 - If 1 is tricky, maybe i could settle for a code wich only adds background color, though i've already tried that and had the same effect. Problem seems to be with the td.text div, but there doesn't seem to be any alternative, unless i recode the rest of the page to correct its global effect.
    4 - Alternative coding for multi-browser compatibility.

    Re: Help with tables on a myspace profile

    Multi browser compatibility in myspace is WAY harder than any other website.
    It's due to the fact that they ban certain codes you can use.

    I personally hide everything, and re-create everything within the about me section using tables.
    It's a pain, and wayyyy old school way of doing things,
    but it is alot better for cross-browser compatibility as you only position the one section(about me) and each cell in the table have their own special align class or something like that that I use.
    It can get quite cluttered that way,
    but I've realized after a few months of nothing but coding that it helps tremendously.

    But at first glance,
    I just have to recommend putting everything you can within one single set of <style></style> tags.
    It helps the page load ALOT faster in myspace and on most websites.

    I've put your profile problems down on my to-do list,
    and as soon as I can I'll be helping all of you on this forum in the order that all of you had posted.
    (I've just got to finish my website-hopefully tonight/tomorrow-then I'll be on here on a regular basis helping you all.)

    Thanks for your patience!!

    I'm not on much anymore,
    so please be patient myspace coders!

    Thank you very much codybear!
    I'll try the hint with the style tags as soon as i can.
    Eager to hear from you again.

    I'm not very experienced with CSS and i went through a lot of headaches to get the page looking decent. To give you an idea i actually created and deleted the same account half a dozen times at least, while choosing between profile 1.0, 2.0, general and band...
    If you can come up with a quick fix i'll kiss your toes!
    Thanks again
