Photoshop Slices
Okay, a site I designed in Photoshop some time ago (before it was obvious how horrible Photoshop is for this operation) originally had issues with the slices shifting around when I added paypal buttons in Dreamweaver but I managed to fix that problem. Since then it has started doing the same thing in IE but not in Firefox. I don't really want to redo the whole site but I know how crappy Photoshop is for exporting HTML. Is there an easy fix for this or an easy way to use the Photoshop layout but not export the HTML from there?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Photoshop Slices
Hi there ash_spears,
and a warm welcome to these forums.
The use of tables for page layouts is a twentieth century method.
These links will tell you why they should be avoided...
- Why tables for layout is stupid: problems defined, solutions offered
- Ten ways to speed up the download time of your web pages
- Nested Tables: About the (ab)use of tables as layout tools in webpages.
- Why Tables Are Bad (For Layout) Compared to Semantic HTML + CSS
- Why go table free?
- Why avoiding tables (for layout) is important
Using modern coding methods means that for the majority of layouts image slicing is also consigned to history.
You can find a complete reworking of you page here...

Re: Photoshop Slices
Thanks so much! There are only two things, first there is a small gap above the second paypal button. How do I get rid of that? Also, how do I do this so that I can do the other page on the site?

Re: Photoshop Slices
Hi there ash_spears,
I have tested the page in IE, Opera, Safari and Firefox and cannot see a gap.

Okay, not sure why it is still showing up on mine then. I will test it on a different computer.
Still, how do I do what you did so that I can fix the contact page for the site?

Re: Photoshop Slices
Hi there ash_spears,
I would not code pages like that in reality.
My example was only intended to display the pointlessness of image slicing.
Users with images or CSS disabled or with screen readers would have no page content.
The following images show these undesirable effects ...
Images disabled
CSS disabled
I am not saying that images or CSS must not be used but that page content,
in your case book descriptions, must always be done in real text.
With this in mind, we may be able to help you with your future page coding.

Re: Photoshop Slices
Coothead,
Thanks but I kind of already knew how bad an idea it was to use slices. I learned that since I did all these web sites ages ago when it wasn't so obvious how bad Photoshop was for this. I'm not really planning on continuing to pursue web design as I have my degree in Visual Communication with a concentration in more static things like advertising and storyboarding. I am just trying to fix the web sites that I designed back when I was in junior college because these problems I am seeing have just recently arisen. I will try to find a temporary solution until I can have someone redesign the site. Thanks so much for your help and I will definitely come back if I have any more problems.

Re: Photoshop Slices
Also, I have to say that I have tried many many different forums to get an answer to my issues on fixing these sites and you are the only one that has even attempted to help me. For that, I thank you greatly, and will definitely be coming back to this site instead of all the others.

Re: Photoshop Slices
Hi there ash_spears,
Would you like me to remake your two pages for you?
I cannot guarantee that the pages will look exactly
the same, as I would need to use "Web Safe" fonts for
the text and a different background image also.
