    Question underline, different colors, problems; please help!

    so... i would like to underline links with a different color than the font color.

    allow me to put it more simple: i want a link to be of black font color and yellow underline color.

    it has to be possible to do this. i have seen it before. just how?!

    thank you in advance for your comments.

    kind regards

    Sure. its a bodge, but -

    Code:

    <style>
    a:link {text-decoration:none; font-family: san serif; font-size:14px; color: #00008B; }
    a:visited { text-decoration:none; font-family: san serif; font-size:14px; color: navy;  }
    a:hover { text-decoration:none; font-family: san serif; font-size:14px;  color: #00008B; border-bottom:1px solid crimson}
    </style>
    This example taken from -

    http://www.js-examples.com/example/?ex=915&mode=1&COLOR_OFF=YES

    But the principle is simple enough. 'fake' an underline with a bottom-border.

    That STYLE code doesn't work with my IE 5.0+ browser - no underlines display at all, alone or when hovered.

    It might be having trouble with the shortcut rule, try -
    Code:
    <style>
    a:hover {
    border-bottom-width: 1px;
    border-bottom-color: crimson;
    border-bottom-style: solid;
    }
    </style>
    Might help.

    IE6 is fine but in NS7 the link after the copyright notice shows a permanent (always there) underline. It's white until moused over when it turns red. Doesn't really affect the page tho.

    Using IE 5.0+ the

    < style>
    a:hover {
    border-bottom-width: 1px;
    border-bottom-color: crimson;
    border-bottom-style: solid;
    }
    </style>

    appears to be ignored. It's not that important to be able to do this, but if it did work for me, it'd be another fancy-schmancy technique to place at my http://tests.gumint.com page.

    Swords: The site comes up but one must intuit (easier with friendly URLs turned on) that those various categories are actually links to the appropriate pages - no underlines, colors or other indicators appear when the mouse is placed over them with IE 5.0+.

    Very true, if they want it they will find it. The trick is to make it so they can EASILY find it
    on YOUR site, or else they will find it by hitting the back button.
