unsubscribe
does unsubscribing actually work?
i was receiving about 10 emails a day (porn, viagra, home loans, debts), and when i clicked on unsubscribe they all went to the same url. 64.4.30.250
i've unsubscribed all the emails everyday for the past week, and i still get spammed. help, what do i do about this? am i allowed to retaliate? like take down their website or something?

Cardinal sin #1 never unsubscribe, better yet never open an email that is believed to be spam.
Many email list farmers use the unsubscribe as a way of validating emails, once "unsubscribed" they know there is somebody reading the spam, so be prepared to have your addy spread. Some spammers will include an invisible 1x1 gif image and when you open the email the server is called to deliver this gif, another victim
Send it all straight to delete

You can also report it to SpamCop, their site host, and their ISP.

We're not going to solve the problem with SPAM until we begin charging for email. I'd suggest a penny an email with users having to open and maintain a positive balance in some sort of ICANN-related or other INTERNET cost supporting account.
The cost would only affect the SPAMMERS, and even if they could afford it, would help support the cost of maintaining the rest of the internet.
