    Question Flash embedding

    HI,
    Someone wants me to put their HTML page together for a flash movie they had made (the producer of the movie having since moved away). I can't seem to get it to run on line, though it works fine on-line. Code I'm using:
    Code:
    <OBJECT CLASSID="clsid :D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" WIDTH="500"
    HEIGHT="600" CODEBASE="http://active.macromedia.com/flash5/cabs/
    swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0">
      <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="shtendermovie.swf">
      <PARAM NAME="PLAY" VALUE="true">
      <PARAM NAME=loop VALUE=false>
      <PARAM NAME=menu VALUE=false>
      <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high>
      <PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#ffffff>
    <EMBED src="shtendermovie.swf" quality=high bgcolor=#FFFFFF  WIDTH=500 HEIGHT=600 PLAY="true" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" border=1></EMBED>
    </object>
    Will it make a difference if the movie is actually Flash4? This is the code I tried for Flash4:

    Code:
    <OBJECT classid="clsid :D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"
     codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=4,0,0,0"
     WIDTH=500 HEIGHT=600 border=1>
      <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="shtendermovie.swf">
      <PARAM NAME="PLAY" VALUE="true">
      <PARAM NAME=loop VALUE=false>
      <PARAM NAME=menu VALUE=false>
      <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high>
      <PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#ffffff>
    <EMBED src="shtendermovie.swf" quality=high bgcolor=#FFFFFF  WIDTH=500 HEIGHT=600 PLAY="true" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" border=1></EMBED>
    </object>
    When I go to the page, http://www.virtuallyignorant.com/temp/index.html , it just never seems to finish downloading the movie (131kb).

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks!

    This is the code I use, and I know this works -

    <OBJECT classid="clsid :D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"
    codebase="http://active.macromedia.com/flash2/cabs/swflash.cab#version=4,0,0,0"
    ID=filename WIDTH=600 HEIGHT=500>
    <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="Untitled.swf">
    <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high>
    <PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#FFFFFF>
    <EMBED src="filename.swf" quality=high bgcolor=#FFFFFF
    WIDTH=600 HEIGHT=500 TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash"
    PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">
    </EMBED>
    </OBJECT>

    If this fails, I suggest -

    A) Trying it on a different host

    B) Trying it with a different flash file

    I have had a lot of trouble with these babies. Make sure the upload is okay etc

    Hope this helps

    lol. Always the way.

    I wouldn't worry too much about learning flash. It took me 2 months to get my head around flash5 enough to actually make stuff, and I still dont bother much. Its pretty, though.

    Dean,

    I just wanted to take the time to extend a personal thanks to you.

    I have been extremely busy as of late and have had very little time to do much here. You are always here to help out our fellow webmasters, and you do so with a smile in your voice. I feel, and I am sure I can speak for the visitors of ahfb, that we are very fortunate to have you aboard.

    best wishes,

    Dave

    Thanks QuietDean!
    As I was settling in for the night last night it occurred to me to check the upload...you were right. LOL, my FTP program uploaded it in ASCII! The code I had for the Flash4 works fine, and they get to worry about the movie (I refuse to learn Flash right now, it's on the back burner). It plays now, though the movie needs help.
    Whew, that was an almost obvious one. I better start sleeping more again one of these days.

    Thanks again!
