    Depends on your Software...

In MSPAINT, you can change the Attributes of the image so that it is a GIF, then choose a transparent colour.

In PSP6, you can EXPORT it as a transparent GIF.

    In PHotoShop, similar.

Without a graphics package, though, its not possible. Even if you change the suffix of the file, you are not changing the format.

    Download PSP6 Trial at -
    http://www.jasc.com

and try it, you will se that it is worth the money.

I'm not sure PSP supports .art files, but hey, I'm graphically impaired!

    Worst case scenario...
    1) Go into whatever program allows you to see the *.art files.

    2) Press the Print Screen button on your keyboard. It will copy everything showing on your monitor, make sure graphic is viewable.

    3) Start a graphics program which allows copy & paste and supports the file format you want to change the *.art image into.

    4) Without cutting anything or opening a new file, Paste as New Image. If that paste option is not available, open a new image (with as many colors as possible) and then paste.

    5) Select portion of screen capture you need in new format.

    6) Copy, then Paste as New Image again.

    7) You should now have an exact copy of the graphic you need to re-save. Save it in new format.

.art files are AOL specific graphics.

    Thumbs up

I probably didn't explain my self enough before, sorry. I am on AOL and had checked (compress graphics). Once I checked (Do not compress graphics) they are saved as gif or jpg. Thank you for your help. I think I will still get PSP. Well, this gives me something to put in my t-n-t page anyway. LOL.

The .art file format is an attempt by AOL to prevent its users from leaving. What would you do if most of your graphics files were in a proprietary format?
