Another vertical scroll bar thread
Hey I just joined these forums because everybody seems to be so knowledgeable and helpful. I'm using Macromedia Dreamweaver MX on a Mac and need some help on removing the horizontal scroll bars from a table.
I have been reading the scroll bar topics, but it hasn't been working for me.
I inserted a div Layer 296px wide and 391px tall. I set overflow to scroll. I then inserted a table on top of the layer and set the width to 296px and 391px as well. The problem when I view the page in a browser, is I get horizontal scroll bars as well which I don't want.
This site http://www.ahfb2000.com/webmaster_he...ead.php?p=5704 shows the type of tables and scroll bars I'm going for.
So hopefully someone could reply with a Dreamweaver answer, but I guess I can manage with a code related answer as well.
P.S. do I even need the table on top of the layer, or can I just do this on the layer. Cuz whether I try type on just the layer or the table, I still get the same problem with the horizontal scroll bars.

Alright here's the code:
<div id="Layer1" style="position:absolute; width:295; height:391; z-index:1; overflow: auto;">
<table width="296" height="391" border="0">
<td valign="top"><p>wecome to my web page</p>
<p>this is a test to</p>
<p>are no horizontal scroll</p>
<p>and if </p>
<p>they are still here..then damn. </p></td>

The table inside the div is wider, so you will have scroll.
I amended the table to
<table width="270" height="391" border="0">

You're awesome man! It was that simple...thanks a lot.
Since I use a web editor (dreamweaver), do you know if it's possible to view the table with the scroll bars in the editor? I ask because if I type a LOT in the layer it will just keep extending down the screen. This is not a problem when you view the page in a browser because the overflow creates the scroll bars anways. But not having scroll bars in the table while working can create for a messy looking layout to work in.

Sorry, never used any editors really, so I am not much cop at them.
maybe a DW user can chime in.

I have been having the same problem in DW and have yet to find a way to hide the rest of the layer. I have done searches and come up empty handed. Starting to think it's impossible.

Vertical Scroll Bar
This code is exactly what I needed. My question is - how can I adjust the starting location of the vertical scrollbar. Obviously the default value is to start at the top of the document, and u can scroll down, but I'd like my page to start already partially down the page - Any ideas?

if you mean you would like to jump from one part of a page to another then there are two parts of code you need to insert.

Let me better explain what I want: I created a small <div> section on my page layout (a 'box' 200x200 with a vertical scroll bar that allows you to navigate through many lines of code within that scrollable box). Instead of starting that box with the top line of code, I'd like it to start about half way down the lines of code - u can still scroll back up if u want, but u start somewhere in the middle. Makes better sense?

I have a page that's vertically scrollable. Can that page default so that the scroll bar is already half way down the page? i.e. some sort of property for the scrollbar similar to valign=middle? Or vertical position=x?

im guessing my previous post wasnt what you were after!
The anchor link should take you to where you want to go anywhere on any page!
Is it on the initial page load you want your anchor to be?
If so try this in your body tag,
<body onload="window.location.hash = 'MYANCHOR';">

Re: Another vertical scroll bar thread
Hi team, i'm very new with html and web design. I'm having a crack with a site at the moment using dreamweaver. I stumbled across this site and used the code to generate a divider with scroll functions only i can seem to get the scroll box to stay still, it seems to float around the page as the user changes the window size. Could someone please look at my code and see where i'm going wrong, i'm sure its something simple. Thanks, the page link is
