A post over at cj forum:

European advertisers are dropping kazaa because of links to "snuff" sites, appeared on German television show....is there no limit to the depths these people will stoop:angry2:

I think/hope we are seeing the death throes for this type of advertising, these companies have shown this technology is too powerful and too open to abuse.

    hooooowdy!

stoppin' in to catch up and add a little something I discovered about tTOPtext.

Trying a couple experiments and discovered that TOPtext targets the first six keywords/key phrases on a page.

I was wondering why so many words appeared to be "dropped" from linking when viewing the keyword list on the board, but were still active from engines and sites.

Here is a list of still active, as of this a.m., scumvertiser keywords from the GHF. Less, to be sure, but more than I had hoped.

Mousejockey and everyone, not to dampen your spirit, but to motivate: I don't believe we're seeing the demise of this crooked revenue stream. I believe they're regrouping to refine their technique.

They know it will likley take at least 6 mos. for Gator/IAB to start locking horns in court, and longer for the battle to be fought. Meanwhile these rat-bastards are dancing all over our sites in this window of opportunity. That UglyG struck first will in the end, I believe, be of little consequence. They're essentially asking theft to be legalized & I am certain the IAB can make that point tangable in court. But agree w/RoxanneJ not to count on this.

RockinFewl, I'm down with your uninstall script Will it give users options, or uninstall only the offensive linking code? Many users will still want to keep their convenience ware proggys & will not want their forms info & such removed. That is the only resistance I can forsee from surfers at the moment.

My nickles worth: I believe offering this free or as shareware will get more people to use it. Maybe we can find a way between us and other interested parties to handle the digiID cost.

We have to remember that bazillions of webmasters use free web space, usually due to financial constraints. I would prefer to find 20 people to send $10.00 @ for the license & present the software to webmasters as shareware. This will ensure more public exposure.

RoxanneJ, I'm glad a grass roots pro has joined the fight! I understand your relcutance to drive advertising by headline grabbing & was worried about getting WUAS in front of the people. I like the FAQ added to the site, again, answering questions people are asking. They don't care about scumware unless the understand how it effects them first hand

and a BIG GIANT HELLO to Webmistress! Dang gurl! I thought you fell off the end of the web!! Good to "see" you again. I hope all's well in your realm I'm glad you've joined the fight!

Mousejockey, I'm sorry to hear you're sick & hope you're feelin' better. Stick a bowl under your modem, I'm sending Grandma's Chicken Soup fer ya' !!

I gotta' scoot good people. Husband has taken vacation weeks. He's quit smoking. He's in the garage putting up new shelves. I'm supposed to be helping. I don't want to. He's MISERABLE. I understand. He's cranky. I love him anyway. He's a word I can't type in polite company. I'm a word I can't type in polite company. Herein lies the problem. "Please Lord, help me keep my mouth shut and not compound this man's suffering today."

HEY! Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket??!?

    TTY soon!

Help!!! I need a flash expert!

Folks, we need to get a demo of what's happening to some very important folks; I'm just learning flash and I'm soooo lost. Do we have a flash expert here? I have the software, I have the tools, but I do not have the knowledge.

I'm drowning in a lack of flash knowledge; someone rescue me!

Dave, I hope you don't mind me posting that. Several of your members frequent this board as well *winks at Webmistress who hasn't been by for awhile!* and they are allies, tho I can't seem to rouse many to the call.

Taxes.com to file lawsuit next week!

I strongly believe that this is a severe violation of the law and will be taking legal action against both companies.
    http://www.taxes.com/Internet_Hijackers.htm

Steven H. Kassel, President & CEO of Taxes.com, has announced that he is going to file suit next week against eZula.

Great job to the owner of Taxes.com, he is the first one to be filing a direct suit, and he's just a hop, skip, and a jump away from eZula's main office in San Francisco.

Please don't misinterpret, I just happen to be one of the people who think a lawsuit is part of the solution and am happy to see this happening now.

I have read the page you linked to but it says nothing about a lawsuit. Could you please post a link where you found this info.

    thanks,

Dave, here is source as you requested.

    Dave,

The owner of taxes.com became so raging mad about ezula that he opened his own thread at GHF recently.

In that thread he stated he is preparing his lawsuit for next week, and from his "raging" tone I think this guy is as serious as a heart attack.

His username over there is SKasselEA, if you want to check out that thread.

JE - I don't know where you got the idea that I didn't think a lawsuit was a part of this -- I do, I will always think so, and I am amazed one hasn't been filed already; a *number* of lawsuits actually. In fact, I have plans to become party to a lawsuit in Federal court in North Georgia as soon as the papers are drawn up.

What I have said, and what I say today is I don't think we can RELY on a lawsuit as our salvation and wait for it to cure this problem. We are years from a legal resolution.

I do believe, however, that several injuctions will be forthcoming next week against these thieves, putting a dent in *this* round. I also believe we have several more rounds to go with new, more effective, scumware down the road.

We have to continue this battle to stop the copycats and the bigger fish -- Microsoft and SmartTags.

The CJB URL is a pre-domain purchase one.

RR, you beat me to the punch. I was going to post the http://flash.cultforum.com URL because there is a lot of talent in that forum, not just to get hits. I'd offer my meager Flash talent, but unfortunately, due to RL situations I can't.

Also, just wanted to let y'all know that even though I am not posting much in this forum (or any forum for that matter) due to health problems and other RL problems involving my son's health and other assorted major problems (in fact, I'm barely able to maintain some of my sites, let alone add new content and launch some of the newer ones), I have been following this issue and have done what I can by emailing other web site developers about this problem, including the web mistress for my company's web site. If things improve in RL, I'll be glad to throw some of my resources into the fight.

Sorry Roxanne, I'm still trying to get into flash...but keep flashing off to Bryce.
Just a thought, I've come across "build it yourself" flash type tutorials on some sites, but for the life of me can't remember what they're called, or where I saw them.

I thought this could be perfect for a quick tutorial tour.
