Beware of ipowerweb they are TERRIBLE!!!
Beware of ipowerweb
Their billing team made a mistake and thought that I did not pay. Without sending me a notice they deleted my server files and gave the server to someone else.
I did not make a backup for the site for a long time and everything is lost. They do not answer my letters now for about a week, and they do not refund the money I paid them already.
They are TERRIBLE!!!

more on iPowerWeb
To second Gil Teva's review of iPowerWeb, I'd like to draw readers' attention to my experiences with the same company -- the full, painful chronology of their incompetence can be found at http://www.untied.com/ipowerweb

Ipowerweb is awful - try lunarpages.com
I have just had a similar experience with ipowerweb.
A successful site at kevw.net was switched off due the incompetence of their billing team. Who cares, it allows me to report their complete moron-ness.
I have opened an account with lunarpages.com who I have an account already, they are sweet. they reply to emails within 10 minutes rather than a day with ipowerweb, or more recently, ipowerweb has stopped replying completely, even with multiple emails, no nice words.
I highly recommend lunarpages, and also they have jsp/java web page hosting for a £1 a month, cool,
I am impressed with their service, I think ipowerweb.com should be taken out of the back door, and their director have a good kicking, but maybe he is a christian, so we should crucify him. *(I am a Christian too, but some people need a lesson),

Getting ready to tank iPowerWeb
When I first signed on with iPowerWeb 2 years ago it was a pretty sweet deal for the price. Their customer service was seriously lacking from day one but I knew I was basically getting what I paid for.
I am glad I found this thread or I might never have even bothered looking around at some of these other hosting companies.
More to follow ...

I also now have two lunarpages.com sites, these are great. Support answers instantly, they can easily be contacted by telephone and problems are dealt with instantly.
I love lunarpages.com service and support - I think ipwerweb.com sucks.
Incidentally, I have received an threatening email from person unknown to email removed
This has been passed to our security/mail specialist at work to trace; they are very good at this.

I was all set to kick iPowerWeb to the curb ... but then I noticed I could upgrade to the 2GB plan on the vDeck servers and decided it would be easier to stick around.
In the past I have had problems with their tech support - mostly due to the fact that they rely too heavily on trying to solve problems through ambiguous email messages instead of making the effort to just answer their phones - but for the most part I am a pretty self sufficient guy so I am willing to roll with the punches a little while longer.

IPower is fine, until you need support!
This is kind of a long, and ongoing story, that I'm having problems understanding myself! I'll try to make it short!
I've had 2 sites with Ipowerweb for over 2 years. Uptime was always good, and had no technical problems.
Ten days ago, somebody that was helping me with some work on the site, mistakely deleted an important, and busy messageboard.
We attempted to restore it with the backups that we had,but couldn't do it. I started contacting Ipowerweb to request a tape backup of the particular database, if they had a tape PRIOR to the date of the deletion.
I made daily phone calls, and emailed, also.
At one point, I spent hours on hold, and was switched to Billing to authorize a $50 charge for the database restore.
Three days later, Ipowerweb emailed me with a selection of tape backup dates they had that would be appropriate.
I chose one, and emailed them back.
I kept watching my files, and site, to see what was up.
I could tell they were doing something, since I noticed some new files.
About a week after contacting them, I called again, and spoke to a Tech Support person on the phone, late at night.
I was somewhat snidely informed that the board was up,
(It wasn't) the database had been restored, although they found nothing wrong with it.
I was also told I had been informed this by email 8 hours ago.
WHile I had the guy on the phone, I checked my email, and read 3 messages that stated they had backed up my site, and restored the database, and everything was fine.
(The messages had a patronizing tone)
I looked at the details in the message, and they involved the WRONG domain! (The other site I own, had no problems with, and never mentioned in my contact with them.)
Great. They had backed up the wrong domain.
FWIW. They charged my credit card immediately.
I just about went ballistic, but didn't scream at the person on the phone. I informed him what had ben done, then immediately replied to the emails with the same information.
This was around midnight, local time. I went to bed totally frustrated.
In the morning, (Weds)I got up, checked my site and files...saw nothing, and checked email.
There was an email from Ipowerweb stating they DID NOT have a tape backup of the database I needed and would REFUND my money.
OK. All is lost, I figured. I continued trying to restore the lost message board.
I've been busy working on the site, and checked my email last night.
I had a message from Ipowerweb stated they had restored the CORRECT database, with a tape backup from the 24th.
(THis wouldn't work...as I had continously told them. The board was deleted on the afternoon of the 22d. ANYTHING prior to the 22d would be good!)
The message also referred to another charge.
I checked my credit card account, and the original fee had not been refunded.
I have an idle card with the same card issuer. I don't use this card, although it was my primary card when I first signed on with Ipowerweb. I had used it initially to pay for services, but not in the last year or so.
I noticed a balance on that card. On FEB 28, Ipowerweb charged $50 to do a tape backup to the database with a backup from a date that was not what I requested.
I'm not sure this all makes sense.
I dread dealing with Ipowerweb on the phone.
Apprarently...everyone I talked to on the phone, screwed up the information, or issued another ticket number, which screwed things up.
(I got chastized in several emails for causing new ticket numbers to be generated.)
I'm totally disgusted with them. I used to be a satisfied customer.
I can't ignore this, but am afraid to contact them again, in case it results in some new charge for some service I didn't need......
I understand 'you get what you paid for.' I used a higher priced provider before, and may switch back.
This is the first time I needed help from Tech Support, and one mistake on behalf of my helper, has snowballed into a nightmare for me.
I can't tell what they've done to my files. My disc usage went from 22%, to 97%, with warnings I was 'full', OVERNIGHT.
If this problem had never happened, I would still be a happy Ipowerweb customer.
Now, I'm considering moving on..................
I'm not a trained computer, or 'net person. I've been maintaining 'hobby' sites for 5 years, and slowly have learned a little. Of course, I need to learn more.

Update on my mess.
Ipowerweb has agreed to refund the two fifty dollar charges.
I'll watch my card accounts and see what happens.
I'm still not happy with the tech/customer support, but, we'll see what happens.

Good luck with the refund, I would take the money and run.

lunarpages.com v ipowerweb.monkeys
I have moved to lunarpages.com - I was able to talk to them on an 0800 number, fairly late at night. The service is always fantastic, and instant.
I have been rude to ipowerweb a couple of times, hence they do not answer any of my emails any longer, but this does not allow them to just turn off a site. If you run a whois on kevw.net, for example, they still own the name, which is pretty crappy, so they won't earn anything from it. But their database does not recognise that they own the name, so who cares.
Anyway, more positively, lunarpages.com offer access to using jsp and java pages for an $1 a month, which I am really excited about. I must admit, I have not made full use of this yet, although I have tried out some simple (actually good working working examples) and witha quick email, this was working fine.
I like this company, and have added a picture of a monkey to my sites alongside the lunarpages logo (for which I am an affiliate) , to compare the two sites.
I think people will make their own minds up, but I get highly rated in google for certain areas, and a mention of a crap web provider is available to anybody who wants to read it.
I don't like ipowerweb, but that is as far as it goes. Life moves on. This is an excellent message board, by the way.

Re: Beware of ipowerweb they are TERRIBLE!!!
Wow, what is happening today with ipowerweb? I looked at my logs and see almost 500 people to this thread alone today!
Some of you may be well served to take a look at our hosting directory http://www.ahfb2000.com/hostindex.php

Re: Beware of ipowerweb they are TERRIBLE!!!
That is a strange coincidence, for sure.
I am currently doing some homework to see what's going on with various hosts.
I must say that I have placed three clients with iPowerWeb and have not had any trouble. Some reviews (and this thread) indicate long wait times and inadequate tech support but I have not found this to be the case.
There are some reviews that suggest that iPowerWeb is NOT for newbies and so that might be the problem encountered by some of the people who are unhappy with their support. iPowerWeb seems to focus on high-volume commercial sites and they don't sweat the small stuff. Not exactly ideal for those who need more help, but there are other options out there (like, indeed Lunarweb).
