    tracking link clicks

    is there some javascript or php code that if you have a link:

    <a href="blah.com">

    you could track how many click on that link?

    <a href="blah.com" onclick="trackuser()"> or whatever you'd do for php?

    PHP scripts a-gogo for link tracking, mate.

    I could probably whip up a simple one, but for full functionality try

    http://www.hotscripts.com

    They have loads.

    so...

    I download this clickcounter thing, it's called the best clickcounter or something like that, but all it gives me is .php documents. In my <a> tag, do I have to link to it or something? How do I get it to count for me? Thanks for your help so far.

    Im GUESSING that one of the php documents has instructions.

    Usually, your links look something like -

    a href="clickthrough.php?id=244"

    Dean...you know how were great friends and all...;)

    Could u just whip up a simple one? All I want is just something that will count how many clicks are on certain links to know what to make more known, etc. The notes most of them leave are really crappy. You'd be my hero

    Look for a program called clicklog it is very simple to set up, and I believe I got it from the same link that Dean provided.

    ran into a problem...

    I'm havin trouble figuring out what this means...

    The next line is the full server path to the log file.
    When using Windows please make sure to use double slashes:
    Windows: $log_file = "c:\\html\\logs\\click_log.dat";
    Unix: $log_file = "/home/www/logs/click_log.dat";

    what does it mean the full path to the log file? just like "http://cgi-bin.spaceports.com/~algthtml/click_log.dat" or something? but why on the windows example does the logfile have a "c:\\..." on it?

    Help would be appreciated thanks in advance

    Derek, I do not recall the structure at Spaceports. Make a post in thr "Cgi Help" forum over at Spaceports or just doing a search of that particular forum should give you the answer.

    :)

    this isn't for spaceports, it's just part of the intrsuctions for the clicklog thing you told me to use I just don't know what those intrsuctions meant so I coudln't finish configuring the script. I just used my url as examples for the script so it would be ready to go when I move everything. You'd said u used the clicklog so I figured you'd know, that's why I asked

    You will have to get the answer from your webhost.

    Quick hint, though...

    a path looks like this -

    /public_html/dean/css

    a url looks like this -

    http://www.somepeople.net/dean/css

    When you are using your FTP client, look at the address at the top. Thats the path.
