Talking Code for a file download

I need to post a file to the website for people to be able to download, however, I have no idea how to do this. I uploaded the file to one of the directories on our remote web server and now need to know how to code it so the Excel file downloads when you click on it.

Did you try a normal hyperlink to the file?

    Hi Helen,

Try zipping the file than just link to the zip file normally, it should work.

    Very frustrating

    Dave-
I tried your suggestion with no luck. I still get the page that says page not found. I checked all the permissions and everything seems to be set correctly. Is it possible that the company that hosts our site is setup not to allow file downloads? I am totally at a loss at this point.

    Thumbs up

THANK YOU!!!! You were right it was a case sensitivity problem. However, if you would like to check out the page on which I was PREVIOUSLY having a problem go to:

    http://www.gtpension.com/caccess.html

Click the first choice of "Log in to Secure Client Area"
    when prompted enter:

    Username: Demo
    Password: pass

You will then go to the page with the link to the downloadable file. This username and password will be good for 3 days. Thanks again for your help!

Glad you got it all worked out Helen. You may want to change your last post to read

    Username: demo
    Password: pass

    instead of
    Username: Demo
    Password: pass

    Case sensitivity again
