    windows vs linux

    windows vs linux


    Does anyone know the market share of these two operating systems in regard to servers online.
    Im thinking linux is bigger but I maybe wrong.

    I am sure you are right about Linux having the bigger market share for servers, but have no reliable source to back it up.

    Netcraft conduct monthly surveys on server software, e.g. Apache, IIS, etc.. Apache has the largest market share, but since Apache runs on both Linux and Windows, it's not possible to say with certainty which platform is the leader.

    With that said, if I had to guess, Apache is run on far more Linux server than on Windows.

    The March survey says Apache is running on 69% of the servers tested, windows/IIS on 20%.
