    Re: Best Forum Software?

vbulliten is the best in the cence that it has the most features, but out of the others...

i would have to say one that you didnt list:
    YaBB

i had phpbb, but i HATED IT!!! it didnt have a good look to it (even though it is editable) and the session thing was driving me nuts! YaBB on the other hand (i am talking about YaBB2 [which is in beta]) is easily edited to your personal needs, and if there is somthing that it doesnt have that you would like (like a rating bar, or a "quick reply") there are developers that will mod the board for you (i one of them), then post the mod for everyone to download. it is faster than PHPBB, and written in PERL, so it can be ran on more servers!

vBulletin is expensive but worth its money because it has many more features, can handle high traffic and has better security and support. PhpBB is probably the best to start with because it is free and open source.

ahhh, that makes me seem so lame. I use phpbb (which is very very very easy to use and free, yet lame), but all the best forums use the latest versions of vBulliten.

    I am using SMF.
Not a bad piece of software. Too bad the number of mods and themes is not as much as phpBB.

    Re: Best Forum Software?

I'd set up phpNuke a while back. It wasn't intuitive, but it would have done the job that I needed it to. The project that it would have supported, however, never got off the ground.

In my opinion, phpBB is the best forum software. It's easy, full featured, very customizable, and very popular.

I give my vote to VBB.
I once used PHPBB but I think VBB is much more better.

    First preference is vBulletin.

But for free software phpBB wins hands down. I use it loads.

Hi I think VBulletin is the best, but you have to pay a yearly subscription. SMF is the one that I use because it is easy to update and there are plenty of plugins.

Invision Power Board I cannot comment on, because I have never used it.

phpBB I have used and lost all my data when I tried to update it. You have to ftp the files to the location.

    Hope this has been helpful.
