    Welcome Andy. My suggestion for you is to begin with the most basic page you can and add features to it as you learn them. My preferred method of learning is to look at the source code of a page I really like to see how they did it.

    Ignore all code in between <SCRIPT ...> and </SCRIPT> and
    <STYLE ...> and </STYLE> until you become comfortable with everything between <BODY ...> and </BODY>.

    It took me several years to begin using <SCRIPT ...> and <STYLE ...> coding but then I was a lot older when I started and there wasn't much of it being used 4 or 5 years ago.
