    root access deinied - Please help!

    Hi there!
    I have Mac OS X and I have been trying to install Mysql. Everything seems to be going peachy until I try to access my root folder. This is the error message that I get:
    Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
    I have no idea what the password would be, but it shouldnt be anything because it is not set to anything when I look at it in my NetInfo Manager. I have tried accessing it with and without a password and each time it has failed. Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Off the top of my head mySQL treats a blank password as just that - a password that is blank.
    That's not the same as no password - don't ask me why, I do know but I don't think posts can be that long

    If you're using mysql_connect() try
    PHP Code:
    mysql_connect ("server_name""root"
    instead of
    PHP Code:
    mysql_connect ("server_name""root""password"

    Thanks! I appreciate your response, but I could use a little more help. I am not using PHP code yet, I am just trying to access it through unix. So, what I have been doing is this "test" that someone told me to do:
    /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -uroot test
    When, I do this, I get the following message: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
    Does anyone know how to fix this (or at least how to start). Help is much appreciated.
