Thumbs up Music Download Shop Script

    Hi

Can any of you gurus tell me how I would go about creating a downloadable music store, with a good shopping cart? It's for a client and money is not a problem, or copyright issues as it's the clients own music.

Basically, the first issue is the front end it has to be able to be customised to fit the design the client wants which is not a normal shop front.

The closest I came to in my searches to describe is eMusic but like always their back end is confidential

    The features wanted:
    *Customisable front end
*online shop with direct credit card purchases
    *sample mp3 files listenable online
*single and album instant download after purchase

Can you tell me what the factors would be involved? Such as a reliable shopping cart script, highly customisable preferred.

A dedicated server or other for the full files?

Anything else that I should consider?

I would be very grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction, any info would be great!

    Many thanks
    Loren

You would probably be better off locating a software package that has the functionality you're seeking, with capability of customizing it to fit your needs.

In doing a bit of Googling, I came across http://www.comersus.com/docs_ecommerce_music_stores.html, which looks promising. Perhaps this or others from those search results might work for you.

I'd have to agree with V_J - if money isn't an issue, buy in the shop system and make sure the front-end's totally customiseable.

    Re: Music Download Shop Script

I did google and check redhot scripts, etc...but it was knowing what i was looking for that probably hindered me...so thanks for the link that's wonderful, looks promising!

No money not really the issue it's the ability to get everything that is needed without all that faffing about that you can go through, so once again thanks for the information.

There is one thing though, this client of mine has been advised by the backend developer (im the one making it pretty ) that he purchases/leases a server and runs it at his home, in order to store the gigs of complete music files. Not sure this guy is up to sorting any problems out with server if it should arise. On top he has to pay for business phone line and have this server on all the time obviously.

Now, I am not really up on the server side of things, I am a reseller of hosting space, and that's about it for me . Now I know there are dedicated servers and other such servers (please feel free to correct me and tell me differences), am I right you don't have to have a server at home, that you can rent from a facility that specialises these types, and get support too?

    Much appreciated
    Loren

Without knowing his personal circumstances it would be hard to advise - but I would personally not recommend doing so.
You'd need a commercial dedicated line (not just an extra line running broadband) and backup systems, proper procedures, data protection - very, very complicated and messy.
I would, however, agree that leasing a dedicated server for hosting would be sensible - that way you can ensure that backups, security and uptime are part of the package you buy.

I'm a bit out of my league on this question too. However, I know there is hosting called semi-dedicated or managed hosting, something like that. Basically, it's a dedicated server but your hosting company provides all the server related support. For someone in your client's situation, that is the way to go. He gets a dedicated server that way without all the heaches that come with managing the server himself.
