    ActiveX Object for Acrobat reader 8 in Firefox

    I have the following code.. which checks the acrobat version, using Activex object and displays the version in the page..
    For some reason its not working for Acrobat 8 in firefox.. I am using the AcroPDF.PDF object and its detecting in IE, but not in Firefox..

    Code:
        try {
            var oAcro4 = new ActiveXObject('PDF.PdfCtrl.1');
            if (oAcro4) {
                acrobat.installed = true;
                acrobat.version = '4.0';
            }
        } catch(e) {
        }
        try {
            var oAcro7 = new ActiveXObject('AcroPDF.PDF.1');
            if (oAcro7) {
                acrobat.installed = true;
                acrobat.version = '7.0';
            }
        } catch(e) {
        }

    I know that versions 6 and before used PDF.PdfCtrl and version 7 uses AcroPDF.PDF

    Can anyone suggest the activexObject that the firefox detects with Acrobat8...
    Help really appreciated..

    Thanks

    Re: ActiveX Object for Acrobat reader 8 in Firefox

    I figured this one out..
    The same code works with IE for Acrobat 8 too..

    But for mozilla or other navigators.. the plugin name has been changed

    Check navigator.plugins for “Adobe Acrobat” won’t work with Adobe Reader 8 as it’s name changed to “Adobe PDF Plug-in for Firefox and Netscape”

    Hopefully it will help someone
